The Halo games use an undocumented binary format and a custom in-house engine that changes from version to version. Everything you're trying to compare to Halo modding either has an available SDK or in the case of GTA accessible files that are not monolithic and in many cases plaintext or xml. And the 360 unsigned code issue is a problem for all 360 modding, not just Halo. So you're kvetching about the lack of super-cool mods in an environment where there is no support from the developers, the data was stored in a way that makes loading fast but modifying difficult and there are limitations due to the platform itself. And somehow the people who decided to spend their free time developing applications to work around these limitations are losers and the cause of the problem?

except zteam and cmt, who have worked on all platforms. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

He said the game is limited due to the platform, not we cant mod it because of the platform.

Wow! Someone is bitter. Just remember that a tool is only as good as its user. You have to understand and then do. That said none of the source code I have seen could be considered rigorous or proper.

It is sad because I have the programming expertise and the interest in Halo modding, but there are few resources for learning .map format.

I have some experience with the H1 PC/CE/Trial format. If you're interested feel free to contact me by PM. By my understanding H2 and H3 are very similar. There's some good information on those on the rework3d wiki: here.
